Spotted in Richmond: Bored

The campus of Virginia Commonwealth University is basically the center of my hometown Richmond, Virginia and scattered throughout it are these telephone poles that have been used to advertise events with stapled flyers, since probably as long as the poles have been in place. Some poles just have a dense coating of rusted staples where people have diligently removed the actual flyers. But others seem to be impossible to keep clean and so they just pile up one flyer on top of the next over time. I didn't realize how thick they'd gotten until I spotted this lovely bit of street art (at least I'm assuming that's what it is) the other day. It's a virtual architectural dig of gigs. The hole is several inches deep and at the bottom is still that solid mass of staples covering the actual wood. It's an immensely satisfying piece of art. Kudos to whoever created it.
